Anne Boleyn's Last Letter | Interview with historian Sandra Vasoli

The tragic downfall of Queen Anne Boleyn has always, and will continue to, fascinate many across the globe—for she was the first Queen to ever be executed but sadly, as we see only years later with her cousin Katherine Howard, she was not the last. Rising from a mere lady-in-waiting to Catalina de Aragon to becoming one of the handful of Queens married and chosen for love rather than duty to sadly being executed at the Tower of London on false charges of treason, adultery and incest. Queen Anne Boleyn was a woman of intrigue and, not surprising, her last moments of life are interesting also.

The Tower Letter is believed to be the last letter Queen Anne Boleyn ever wished to send to her tyrannical husband—it is, of course, not written from her hand but the words themselves are believed to be those of Anne's, written down by possibly a scribe or someone who visited her on the 6th May 1536, just 13 days prior to her execution. However, many historians have questioned its validity and whether it was dictated by Queen Anne herself or if it is a forgery.

So today, on the anniversary of the letter's creation, I will be discussing the Tower letter and its significance with today's guest, Sandra Vasoli; historian and the author of Anne Boleyn's Letter from the Tower.
