Astrology in Tudor England and its significance | Interview with The Tudor Astrologer

Astrology is not a subject that is much discussed when it comes to the Tudor era but it is one that holds a lot of information about what mattered most to the Tudors, especially the monarchs. Astrology in the Tudor times was nothing like how modern astrology is today but it enabled monarchs such as Henry VII, Henry VIII and Elizabeth I to catch a glimpse of what lay in their future and to correctly pick dates for important events that would have a positive impact on their future.

Highly regarded astrologers in the Tudor times, such John Dee, were employed by the Crown and their talents were used to predict future events. Some examples would include King Henry VII firing his astrologer for making the prediction that his wife Queen Elizabeth of York would live well into her eighties only for her to die at thirty-eight or the most commonly known fact that an astrologer told Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn that their child, who would turn out to be Elizabeth I, would be a boy or even John Dee who was the one Elizabeth advised on when to hold her coronation and he advised her to be coronated on 15th January--and so she did.

So today, on the anniversary of the birth of John Dee's adopted son Theodore Dee, I will be discussing astrology in the Tudor times and its significance with today's guest; Sasha Marks a.k.a. The Tudor Astrologer, an expert on Tudor astrology.

Sasha founded The Tudor Astrologer / The Tudor Sky website and Instagram page a little over two years ago where she educates her readers on what astrology was like in the Tudor times and what astrology can tell us about famous historical figures and events. You can find her website at The Tudor Astrologer and her Instagram page at https://www.instagram.com/tudor.astrology/.
