Fashion at the Tudor Court | Interview with historian Eleri Lynn

Fashion is an aspect of life that often is seen as a luxury or of less importance, especially when it comes to history. However, fashion of the past can tell us so much about what was deemed as important to these people and what fashion trends existed. From laws being passed to lay out what was deemed acceptable to wear in society or at court to a deep examination into the smaller details of the Tudor monarchs clothing, there is so much that fashion can tell us about our ancestors, their societal beliefs and the way they led their lives.

From Catherine of Aragon introducing Spanish fashion trends to the Henrician court to Anne Boleyn's embracing of French fashion to Jane Seymour remaining 'plain' by sticking to good old English clothing and so much more—there is so much about Tudor fashion to be explored and that is why I'm so delighted to welcome today's guest; Eleri Lynn, a brilliant author, historian and expert on Tudor fashion!

Eleri Lynn is a Trustee at the Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court Palace and the author of Tudor Fashion and Tudor Textiles which explore Tudor fashion and fabrics in such extraordinary detail—I implore you to give these books a read!
