The overlooked members of the Tudor Dynasty | Interview with historian Leanda de Lisle

The Tudors dynasty is one filled to the brim with drama, scandal, murder, love and a legacy that lives on still to this very day. You've heard of King Henry VII, the founder of the Tudor dynasty who won his crown at the Battle of Bosworth against King Richard III. You know the story of King Henry VIII and his six ill-fated wives who all suffered at the hands of their King and husband. You love how empowered his daughters, Queen Mary I and Queen Elizabeth I, were when they assumed their rightful places upon the throne and proved that women could rule as greatly as men. These names are forever imbedded into our history, our cultures and, in some cases, our daily lives.

However, history has a habit of favouring the more scandalous or juicy figures in history and leaving others in the shadows. Overlooked members of the Tudor family might include the very woman who made it possible; Lady Margaret Beaufort, the mother of King Henry VII and a very important key player in the Wars of the Roses. Or even Catherine of Valois and Owen Tudor; the widowed Queen of England who married a commoner for love and birthed an entire dynasty without even realizing it! These overlooked members of the Tudor dynasty are just as important as the popular ones and that is why I'm so delighted to welcome today's guest; Leanda de Lisle, a brilliant journalist, historian and expert on Tudor history!

Leanda is the author of many fabulous books including After Elizabeth: The Rise of James of Scotland and the Struggle for the Throne of England, The Sisters Who Would be Queen; The Tragedy of Mary, Katherine & Lady Jane Grey, Tudor: The Family Story, and Henrietta Maria: Conspirator, Warrior, Phoenix Queen.
