The Palace: 500 Years of History | Interview with historian Gareth Russell

Hampton Court Palace is one of those places where magic, intrigue and scandal seems to live and breathe within its walls and at its very core. Over the last 500 years, Hampton Court Palace has played host to historical figures of great significance and witnessed the life-changing events that occurred within its numerous rooms. Not only has the people residing within the palace changed over the centuries but so has the palace itself, as it has undergone countless rounds of reconstruction and architectural changes, all of which only further add to its charm and allure.

From the rise and fall of Cardinal Thomas Wolsey to the first royal death of Queen Jane Seymour mere days after providing Henry VIII with his long-awaited male heir to the supposed haunted gallery where Queen Katheryn Howard pleaded to see her husband, there is so much history behind this wonderful palace. Yet many may not know some of the juicy details and that is why I'm so delighted to welcome today's guest; Gareth Russell, a brilliant author, historian and expert on Tudor history!

Gareth is the author of many fabulous books including Young & Damned & Fair: The Life & Tragedy of Catherine Howard at the Court of Henry VIII; Do Let's Have Another Drink! The Dry Wit and Fizzy Life of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother; and The Ship of Dreams: The Sinking of the Titanic and the End of the Edwardian Era.
